A very nostalgic bit of time travel there. I’d forgotten just how much of the Lake District fell within our borders.
I thought it was worth sharing to any tuned in Lancastrians,
There is a lot of archive material on the BFI website.
Yes, we lost Coniston but gained Gisburn. You lose some and win some.
An interesting little film BC, even if it was an advert. I remember Lanry from when I was a child, my mum used it. Sadly Piccadilly Gardens hasn’t looked as nice as that for a long time, neither has my own town centre.
Not been in Bolton centre for some time.
Coming from the NE I’d never heard of Lanry – https://boltonworktown.co.uk/photograph/scrubbing-the-pavement
I came across that website quite a while ago BC, the old photos are fascinating and many of the places still existed when I was growing up, in fact some of them still exist now although much changed.
Great little film. Interesting how they seamlessly move from Bolton to the Lake District and then back to Blackpool, completely missing out Preston, Trough of Bowland, Lancaster and Morecambe to name a few. Hooked on the website now though.
Yes, their website is great isn’t it.
